I have ambitious plans for 2017. Things I really want to do and achieve. I got back to work in the New Year really charged up and motivated. I started the year with a fantastic kick-off meeting with the rest of the coaching team at Archipelo. We were all feeling the same way; creative, highly motivated, and eager to find ways to support our clients and grow the business. We also talked about development for ourselves, which as a coach, is important and can be easily down prioritised when busy helping others. For me, I wanted to commit to completing some studying I had started in 2015 but not managed to complete yet. I kept on using work as an excuse!
Working with my own coach I committed to the following 5 keys steps to success:
Four weeks in and I have made a fantastic start. I am sticking to my timetable and I have also found a place where I feel able to concentrate. I hadn’t appreciated that this was an issue until I was discussing it with my own coach. Eating my frog was quite hard at first and I must admit I didn’t always do it. I came down with a cold and was feeling unwell which meant my resolve to eat my frog just wasn’t there. But, it is OK. As soon as I was feeling better I was back on track. There was one day when I had a bit of wobble. I got stuck and it throw me because I had expected to have a productive afternoon and then I found myself stuck and unable to get passed it. This is when my newly found buddy was my saviour. My buddy is a fellow coach and she had accepted my advertisement for a study buddy via an alumni site. We met (over Skype) for the first time and hit it off straight away. She is compassionate, understanding, and empathetic when I have an outpouring of frustration. She is a fantastic listener who offers advice and support when I need her to. The relationship has exceeded my expectations of a study buddy. I am extremely grateful for the unexpected gift of genuine friendship.
